A suspect is in police custody following a mass shooting at Seattle’s annual Bite of Seattle food festival that left three people dead and four others wounded, according to authorities.
The shooting unfolded Sunday evening as thousands of people attended the popular event at Seattle Center beneath the Space Needle. Investigators believe the violence stemmed from an exchange of gunfire between two individuals, creating panic as festivalgoers ran for cover.
Seattle police said one suspect was arrested at the scene, while officers continue searching for a second suspect believed to have fled after the shooting. Authorities have recovered two firearms and say there is no ongoing threat to the general public as the investigation continues.
Among those injured is a two-year-old child. Officials say the surviving victims are in stable condition. Detectives are still working to determine the motive and whether any of the victims were directly connected to the confrontation.
The tragedy has shocked Seattle residents and cast a shadow over one of the city’s largest summer events, which attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. Authorities are urging anyone with photos, videos, or eyewitness information to contact investigators.
