The music world is mourning the loss of one of hip-hop’s most influential producers. Grammy-nominated hitmaker Brytavious Chambers, professionally known as Tay Keith, was found dead Thursday afternoon in his Nashville apartment. He was 29 years old.
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, officers conducted a welfare check at Keith’s Martin Street residence and discovered him deceased. Authorities stated that no foul play is suspected at this time. The cause of death remains unknown pending autopsy results.
Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Tay Keith emerged as one of the defining producers of modern Southern hip-hop. Beginning his music journey at just 14 years old, he developed a hard-hitting sound heavily influenced by Memphis legends such as Three 6 Mafia and 8Ball & MJG.
His breakthrough came in 2018 when he produced the smash hit “Look Alive” for BlocBoy JB and Drake. The song became a national sensation and launched Keith into the upper echelon of music producers.
That same year, he helped create one of the biggest records of the decade, co-producing “Sicko Mode” for Travis Scott. The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 and earned a Grammy nomination.
His production credits extended across multiple genres and generations, including work with Eminem, Beyoncé, Future, and Sexyy Red. Most recently, he served as executive producer for Sexyy Red’s successful project Sexyy We Trust.
In a 2022 interview, Keith credited Memphis culture for shaping his signature sound, saying the city’s music was all he knew growing up and deeply influenced his artistic identity.
As news of his death spreads, artists, fans, and industry executives are reflecting on the tremendous impact he made in a relatively short career. His beats helped define an era of hip-hop and will continue to resonate for years to come.
