Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy is dealing with a family tragedy after his wife, Mia Bieniemy, was shot inside the family’s home in Ashburn, Virginia, according to authorities and multiple media reports.
The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to the residence Sunday evening after receiving reports of a shooting. Officers found a 57-year-old woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where officials say she is in stable condition.
Police arrested the couple’s 27-year-old son, Elijah Zion Bieniemy, at the scene. He has been charged with:
- Malicious wounding
- Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
- Discharging a firearm inside a dwelling
He is being held without bond as the investigation continues.
Eric Bieniemy was not at the Virginia home when the shooting occurred. He was in St. Joseph, Missouri, participating in the Kansas City Chiefs’ training camp. The Chiefs acknowledged the situation and asked for privacy while expressing support for the Bieniemy family.
Authorities have stated there is no ongoing threat to the public, and the investigation remains active. Additional details surrounding the circumstances of the shooting have not yet been released.
