The family of Baltimore Ravens defensive lineman Calais Campbell is facing an unimaginable tragedy.

Authorities in Atlanta say Nateal Campbell, the mother of the longtime NFL veteran, was found dead after officers responded to a welfare check requested by concerned family members.

Investigators say Campbell’s brother, Ciarre Campbell, was taken into custody and later charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony. Officials have not yet released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the homicide, and the investigation remains active.

Following the devastating news, the Campbell family released a public statement expressing profound grief over the loss of their mother.

“We are devastated to share that the Campbell Family has lost its matriarch…” the family said while requesting privacy as they mourn.
