The Baltimore City Health Department has announced a Code Blue Extreme Cold Alert beginning Wednesday night through Monday, February 9 , as overnight temperatures — including wind chill — are expected to fall below 13 degrees .

City officials warn that the dangerously low temperatures pose serious health risks such as hypothermia and frostbite , particularly for people experiencing homelessness, seniors, young children, and residents with chronic health conditions . Overnight and early-morning hours are expected to be the most hazardous.

Mayor Brandon M. Scott emphasized that extreme cold can be life-threatening and urged residents to seek shelter, noting that expanded emergency services are in place to ensure no one is left without access to warmth during this period.

During a Code Blue, all emergency shelters are open , and the City increases outreach efforts across Baltimore. Coordinated services include meal distribution to vulnerable seniors, home weatherization support, assistance with energy-bill relief, and expanded cold-weather education.
